Hains: Game 26: Put Down in Nashville
Already severely depleted by injuries and Covid prior to arriving in Nashville, the Habs (especially Jake Allen) put up a good fight but were ultimately put down by the dominating Preds 4-3 in overtime.
Pretty solid take on the game, and the general state of Habs hockey. The kids need to be playing more minutes, but until some veteran players get moved, I don't see Ducharme upsetting the apple cart. The biggest issue I have with Ducharme at this point is his acceptance of the lazy play from veterans, but instant punishment for mistakes by young players. Gorton sounded....smart is the word, or perhaps unafraid, regardless, I see him making the changes at the correct timing.

good blog as usual Karine
thank god Allen is there to save them from complete humiliation, sheesh.
wasn't aware there was a new blog, I think you've stopped notifying us about it in the thread...
At the dollar figure Jake Allen is signed for I'm begininng to wonder what he might fetch in a trade? The way he's playing there must be interest from contenders.

Develop the kids, trade what we can for good return, pick properly and takes this back next season for real…
We need a top 3 pick at next draft… - TheInformer697041
I agree ... trade everything but the kitchen sink (and a few kids) and start over.
We're not making the playoffs in the foreseable future anyway ... we might as well do a proper rebuild instead of continuously patching holes with overpaid veterans.

perhaps to a contender dealing with goaltender injuries..? Allen is a more than decent backup but I doubt that teams would want to rely solely on him in the playoffs... also, at some point the habs need a goalie as well, since Price is very often injured, and a Montembeault/Primeau duo doesn't sound like an adequate solution.

the idea of potentially having to pay a considerable amount of retained salary until 2026 doesn't sound all that enticing, but I guess something could be arranged if there's enough interest...

Keep 33%.... there's a 3 contract retention a year limit, as well as 15% of the cap limit.... 33% is 3.465, it's manageable if the return is worth it

wait, so teams are allowed to retain salary on a maximum of 3 different contracts/players per year, and the % of retained salary has to be split between the 3..?

No more than 3 contracts being retained in 1 season
No more than 15% of the cap is allowed to be retained in total

ah, I see, thanks for the clarification, I'm not too familiar with cap rules and contractual considerations such as these...
but yeah, a cap hit of 3.5M until 2026 kinda sucks, but as you're saying I guess it could be worth it if the return is interesting enough... as long as they don't actually trade him to the Avalanche, that would be kinda (frank)ed up lol.

Avalanche have a lot of pieces the Habs could use, a blockbuster around Price and Girard, could that make sense?

That contract was a bonehead move by Bergevin ... who the Hell pays a goalie all that money? I'm still shaking my head on that one.
When you overly rely on your goalie to make the playoffs, you're doing it wrong.
EDIT: I won't even talk about the bad drafting and inexistent player development during his employment ... Sylvain Lefebvre anyone? Urgh!

oh I'm not saying there isn't a deal that could be made that would make sense for both teams, but it would just be too reminiscent of the Roy trade, as it would be the second time COL got a star goalie from the habs lol...

I know.... but the Habs are in a completely different position now then they we're when the Roy trade took place, they actually stand to benefit from it, no matter what Price and the Avs do. I'd be cheering for Price to win a cup in Colorado.... or Edmonton!

yeah, I know the circumstances are very different, but still... as for Price winning the cup elsewhere, I'd wish him the best but seeing him lift the cup with another team would sting a little, in the end winning in MTL is the only thing that really matters to me.
